Roll Along
March 21, 2012
Since I've gotten back from Germany, I've been on a songwriting kick. I did a quick acoustic take of one of the pieces I've finished for YouTube, a bouncy song called Roll Along.
I'm hoping to put together an album sometime soon, if only to be able to say that I did. I also plan to redesign my website into a sort of idea-blog (and hopefully replace the layout with something more conceptually appropriate than "what's the prettiest picture I have lying around that's big enough to be a background?"). In the meantime, thanks for stopping by.
Kanji Chain しましょう!
October 28, 2011
I've programmed a one-player version of a great Japanese word game, which I've called Kanji Chain. The goal is to link words together by shared kanji. It's sort of in public beta, though it seems to be more or less bug-free so far. Note that you must be able to type in Japanese to play. Many thanks to Nuith Morales for page design.
Fire in the Trees
October 6, 2011
For the first time in years, I wrote a song, titled Fire in the Trees. Yay. It's a bit odd - it wanders through a couple modes, time signatures, and instrumentations - as a result of me trying to capture autumn in music. I'm thinking of doing a cycle of songs for each season.
I am a little crocodile
September 15, 2011
Finally, the timeless Japanese classic songs I've worked with here can be accompanied by a worthy contender from another language. Sort of. Here is me performing "Das Kleine Krokodil", the theme song of the endearing crocodile Schnappi from the German children's show Die Sendung mit der Maus. Usually I write about interesting challenges of the translation, but since I just started learning German a couple weeks ago, everything is a challenge... so it's more of a hopefully somewhat amusing grammar lesson.
Ame no naka mo
September 8, 2011
I just finished my first non-enka translation / arrangement, of Inoue Yōsui's great song Kasa ga nai. Check it out here.
Also, I uploaded the final report I wrote on my enka translations, which has some thoughts on enka and what it means for something to be translatable, in case anybody was interested in the process behind that project.
And I finally moved my update posts into a database for easier organizing / archiving, and you can now comment on them. I'm not sure anybody actually checks this page rather than coming here from YouTube, but if you do, now you can comment about it!
MeaningInMusic
August 8, 2011
I've just opened an online project: MeaningInMusic. It's a site for people to submit, listen to and discuss short musical compositions that represent specific concepts. If you've ever wondered what roses or a breeze sound like expressed in music, check it out! Since the site just started, there really isn't much there, but I'm steadily adding content, and I'm hoping soon other composers will stumble across the site and join in.
My venture into one-man-banding
July 28, 2011
I recently learned "Again", one of the songs featured in the anime Fullmetal Alchemist, and decided I'd use it to practice my AV production skills. You can see the results here, along with my notes on the translation process.
New animation
May 20, 2011
I've added a link to a new animation I've scored recently. The animation is currently being projected onto the ceiling in the senior art exhibit at Dartmouth, so if you happen to be around here, stop by and check it out; it's a beautiful work.
New enka
April 17, 2011
I'm somewhat stunned that it's been a month and a half since I last updated this site. College can be terribly demanding of your time. Ah well, only a few more weeks of it left. I've finally finished a second song in my enka music translation project. I've been a bit more adventurous with this translation. The song is Cry From The North, translated from "Kita no yado kara" by Miyako Harumi.

Added music
April 1, 2011
I added a recording of Singer and Sailor, a song I wrote a few years ago but never got around to recording. Within a week I should also have finished one more song for my enka project (which, given that my allotted time and funding have both gradually faded away, might be my last song for that project... so I'll try to make it a good one).
I turned coffee into a website!
March 10, 2011
Thanks for visiting my online portfolio.
On this page, you can find a list of the latest work I've added to the site. Of course, since this is the first update, everything is new. So feel free to browse around.
